In honor of Women’s History Month 2011, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is celebrating the accomplishments female service members have made while serving their country.
Mary Zylstra served in the U.S. Air Force, she is photographed in Firefighter school. Zylstra served in Panama Canal, Gulf War, and Desert Storm.
On the left, is my Oma (Jantje); on the right, her sister Truus. This was taken before the war, working as a nurse in Holland. Oma had 5 sisters, Truus being closest in age. Then comes tante Lien, tante Tini who lives in Sarnia, tante Geertje, and the youngest sister is tante Dini in Wellandport.
